Swine flu

Swine flu

Swine flu, also known as H1N1 influenza, is a respiratory infection caused by the H1N1 strain of the influenza virus. It first emerged in 2009 and quickly spread globally, leading to a pandemic. Swine flu is similar to seasonal flu in its symptoms, which include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people may also experience vomiting and diarrhea. While most cases are mild, the virus can cause severe illness, particularly in young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying health conditions.

Treatment For Swine flu

Treatment for swine flu typically involves supportive care to relieve symptoms, such as rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications to reduce fever and pain. Antiviral medications, such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza), may be prescribed to shorten the duration of the illness and reduce the severity of symptoms, particularly if started within the first 48 hours of symptom onset. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent swine flu, and the H1N1 strain is now included in the annual seasonal flu vaccine. Public health measures, such as good hygiene practices and avoiding close contact with infected individuals, are also important in preventing the spread of the virus.
