Historical Timeline
The Foundation
Established as the Government T.B & Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital in Nakkavanipalem, Visakhapatnam. This foundation marked the beginning of organized tertiary respiratory care in the region.
Modern Expansion
The hospital relocated to its current sprawling 10.5-acre campus in Pedda Waltair and was officially renamed the Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases, expanding its scope to broader pulmonology.
Integrated Care
Inaugurated the ICTC & ART centers for HIV patients and established a dedicated 30-bed ward for MDR-TB, integrating specialized infectious disease management under one roof.
Environmental Sustainability
Commissioned a modern sewage treatment plant (0.15 KLD), reinforcing the hospital's commitment to environmental hygiene and public health safety.
Oxygen Security
Installed a massive 10 KL Liquid Oxygen tank, ensuring an uninterrupted and reliable oxygen supply for critical care patients, particularly in the wake of global respiratory challenges.
Digital Transformation
Launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) E-Hospital system, digitizing health records and streamlining patient registration for faster, efficient service.
Academic Excellence
Expanded the Respiratory ICU (RICU) and increased postgraduate MD/DM seats to 18 per year, solidifying our position as the region's largest teaching institute for pulmonology.
