Lung transplantation under the Jeevandhan scheme in Andhra Pradesh is part of a state-run initiative aimed at facilitating organ donation and transplantation for patients with end-stage organ failure, including those requiring lung transplants. The Jeevandhan scheme, launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, promotes organ donation by coordinating and streamlining the process of organ retrieval, allocation, and transplantation across the state.

Lung transplantation under this program is offered to patients with severe, irreversible lung conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, or cystic fibrosis, where other treatments have failed. The Jeevandhan initiative ensures that the process of organ donation and transplantation is transparent, equitable, and accessible, with organs allocated based on medical urgency and suitability.

Patients who qualify for lung transplantation are evaluated and listed on a waiting list. Once a suitable donor lung becomes available, the transplant surgery is performed in one of the authorized transplant centers in the state. The program also provides financial assistance and support to eligible patients, helping to cover the costs associated with the surgery and post-transplant care, ensuring that economic barriers do not prevent access to life-saving procedures.
